CheckFree, the nation’s leading electronic payment processing company, and Cybercash, a secure electronic transaction developer, announced they would form a partnership to develop a new electronic wallet to facilitate commerce on the Internet. The two companies will introduce an add-on for World-Wide Web browsers that will allow Internet shoppers to use credit cards, debit cards, or checks for electronic payment of goods on the Internet. The new package will be included in upcoming versions Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic.
“We plan to have it added to as many browsers and in as many ways as we can,” said Michael Slade, vice-president of corporate services for Checkfree. Checkfree technology is already included in money-management programs including Managing Your Money, Quicken, and CA-Simply Money. The new technology might also be included in future releases of those packages.
The Checkfree Wallet was introduced last April to simplify online shopping and make it easier for consumers to make purchases on the Internet. The partnership with Cyberecash will further extend those services. Consumers will not pay extra to use the electronic wallet.
